ELLERSLIE
Rapid transit for Christmas
Friday, December 21, Ellerslie War Memorial Hall. Doors 7:15, show at 8pm.
Travel possible ex Britomart (with connections throughout the Auckland region)
Close to losing it’s rail system altogether in the 80s and 90s, Tāmaki Makaurau is in an extraordinary rail revival, with quiet, comfortable electric trains, smart ticketing, and much more rail on the way. While much of this tour requires careful planning around infrequent schedules, Ellerslie's location on the Southern and Onehunga Lines means it has excellent and (for Aotearoa) frequent connections.
This trip is designed for return travel by rail on a festive evening - the last night of work for many.
Doors for the show will open at 7:15 pm with the show starting at 8:00.
The show will finish at 10:00 to allow for Friday late night trains in all directions (note - these get less frequent).
Itinerary
While there are any number of ways you can arrive in Ellerslie, we’ve devised a scenic loop, using the Eastern Line. Start by getting yourself to Britomart Station. You’ll then travel across Hobson Bay and the Orakei Basin, through mangroves and East Auckland suburbs before changing trains at Otahuhu. Then you’ll head North, over the Manukau Harbour and through some thriving industry to Ellerslie Station.
Depart Britomart 6:36pm (Eastern Line to Manukau)
Arrive Otahuhu 7:01
Depart Otahuhu 7:09 (Southern Line to Britomart)
Arrive Ellerslie 7:17
Cost (with AT HOP card): $3.30
We strongly encourage you use an AT Hop card for exceptional value. Please note that while you can purchase tickets at the stations, you cannot purchase tickets on the train.
